I know this episode has a huge fanbase, and it's mainly because of Rebecca, but I personally think this is one of the series' worst episodes. I've hated this episode since the first time I saw it. I can safely say that with the exception of a few mildly interesting one-shot characters, this episode has no redeeming factors at all. It is, in fact, horrible. Here are some reasons I have for hating it.
First of all, DeVil-Ville has a very uncanny backstory. Some witch, who suspiciously reminds me of Nanny, comes in and puts a curse on the village stating that it will disappear and only return for one day every 100 years, and that anybody who steps into it will love the place forever. However, just because she had a worried chicken on her head, she made sure the curse didn't work on chickens. WHY? That's a stupid excuse! Also, the curse doesn't work on DeVils either, but the witch never said that; only Dimsdale did! What was all that about? Explain, show! Explain!
Second, half-way through the episode, Spot tries to break the pups from the curse. She tries everything she can to snap them out of it, but nothing works. Then, she gets the idea to kiss them, and...it works? WHAAAAAAAAAAA? HOW DOES THAT WORK? How could a problem like that be resolved so quickly? It doesn't leave any mystery or build up any suspense! That would be like if some scientist came in out of nowhere and said, "Oh, check it out, I found a cure for AIDS!" And that happened like 10 minutes after the HIV was discovered! IT DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY!!! They should have made this episode a 2-part episode; at least that would have built up more mystery! WHY DIDN'T YOU DO THAT? EXPLAIN, SHOW! EXPLAIN!
Third of all, what's with Rebecca? After Spot frees Lucky from the curse, Rebecca almost gets Lucky hypnotized again. However, Spot kisses her, and her pupils magically change color, and her personality completely changes. This doesn't make any sense either. This means that Rebecca has some kind of backstory that we don't know about, but WE NEVER LEARN IT! What is Rebecca's backstory? Was Rebecca under the curse too? Is she a regular resident of DeVil-Ville, or is she a puppy from a different century altogether? I mean, surely she must be from a different century, but she was with her mother when Lucky first met her, so wouldn't that make her a regular? I don't know! THE LOGIC MAKES NO SENSE! EXPLAIN, SHOW! EXPLAIN!!!
Finally, the ending. It turns out the Dearlys and Cruella make it back home, and nobody knows what happened at all. Only Spot seems to know. This must mean that Spot was dreaming the whole thing! But, wait a minute! Cruella said that she was walking scorch in her golf cart, and we saw her do that when Spot came out of DeVil-Ville to look up Dimsdale! WHAT KIND OF A PARADOX DID WE RUN INTO HERE! YOU CAN'T JUST WRITE ANYTHING AND EXPECT EVERYONE TO GET IT!
JUST.................................
EXPLAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS EPISODE IS HORRIBLE! IT'S NOT VERY WELL-WRITTEN, THE LOGIC MAKES NO SENSE, AND NOTHING GETS EXPLAINED! SO WHAT MADE THIS EPISODE SO POPULAR? PEOPLE LOVED IT JUST BECAUSE OF REBECCA! NOTHING ELSE, JUST REBECCA!
You know what? Forget it! The writers of this episode just didn't care! And if they didn't care, then I don't care! So I'm just not going to try to put any more logic into it and just leave it alone!
I'm the Dalmatian Critic. I remember it because nobody else does. GOD, WHAT AN AWFUL EPISODE!

Belchic, This...Is just... you're arguments make NO Sense.
I mean, Spot didn't even cure the curse til about, 3/4 way through the Episode. If it was resolved in the first Ten Minutes, than maybe it would be rushed.
Also, Note the Witches name would be, "Hen", meaning she likes Chickens. I mean, if you were putting a curse on a town, however didn't want your friend to be hurt by it, you make sure the curse wouldn't hurt them, would you?
Also! SPOT EXPLAINS HOW SHE GUESSED, KISSING WOULD WORK! She based it off a, Fairy Tale. Also, I guess it's cause, you're getting escense of Chicken on you when she kisses you.
I mean, Fairy Tales may not make sense, but you don't bash those, do you?
Also, Cruella claims she was walking Scorch, she never mentioned she saw the Mist! Also, It wasn't a dream, The curse would also remove memory of, Devil Ville to those who escape, Spot exclueded as she was a chicken. I mean, Hesso even knows that point! EVERYONE KNOWS THAT!
Belchic...YOU'RE ARGUMENTS MAKE NO SENSE! Just cause you're a critic, doesn't mean you have to Bash.
A Real Critic would, Look at the Good Points, along with the Negative. I mean let's say...Tom & Jerry Movie. While T&J movie is written bad and the main characters are always upsatged...The animation is nice. THAT IS REAL CRITICISM. THIS...You bash more than a Hammer does in a thousand years.
This is practically one of the BEST Episodes of "101 Dalmatians The Series". Good Writing, Good Back Story, A somewhat Original Idea and good Direction and Acting.
Seriously though Belchic...You are trying WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Too hard to critic. It just makes you look like a whiny person. Besides, Everything you complained about IS EXPLAINED! Ask ANYONE, and they will say, it is explained.
Still, Good Episode and Your arguments make NO SENSE.
Fun Fact though, One of the Actresses from, Bewitched, Voices, Rebecca. X3

Belchic, This...Is just... you're arguments make NO Sense.Bab, just to let you know, my arguments are only half-serious and half-satirical, but still, let me respond to some of the things you said: Actually, she began curing the curse about 2/3 into the episode. But still, you gotta consider, the curse didn't fully take effect until 1/3 into the episode. So, technically speaking, yes, it was rather rushed. Well, that does make sense not wanting to hurt her friend, but it's not like all who walk into the village will get killed when they come into it. Still, it's not like she was able to figure it out with a lot of logic and research. It was kind of a random guess. It's about as random as guessing that sticking a VHS tape into a Windows 7 laptop computer will work. I wasn't bashing! I was just stating my opinion. Maybe I was being a little bit harsh, but critics do need to get harsh sometimes. Everyone knows that? Okay, that theory does make sense, but still, it was NEVER EXPLAINED! At what point in the episode did anyone say that whoever escapes from DeVil-Ville would have all memories of it erased from their heads? NOBODY! The witch doesn't say so, and Dimsdale doesn't say so! Did I miss something here? Because apparently, everybody knows that. If it is explained, then when in the episode do they say it? Also, I'm sure the pups somewhat remember, because Spot attempted to kiss them thinking it would refresh their memories, and they ran away screaming. Doesn't that kind of concern you at all? You know, that's really funny coming from someone who claims to be a big fan of the Nostalgia Critic, someone who practically bashes EVERY SINGLE MOVIE that he reviews and hardly says ANYTHING positive about them! If he can get away with doing that, then why can't I? Bab, you take my criticisms WAY too seriously! Well, I read your whole response to my post, and you didn't say ANYTHING about Rebecca's backstory, so for me, that is something that still begs an explanation. I mean, think about it. She never explains where she came from, what her backstory is, what nation she's REALLY from, or anything, so her character really needs more of an explanation. Oh, that's a very nice way to put it, bab. Can't you tell how totally confused I am with this episode? Instead of explaining everything to me in a calm manner, all you do is complain about my "bashings" and tell me that my arguments make no sense. You know, you could hurt a guy's feelings saying something like that. Well, to be fair, I was somewhat offended by your review of "Everybody Loathes Jerko", even though you were being satirical, so I guess I can say that we're even.

Actually, she began curing the curse about 2/3 into the episode. But still, you gotta consider, the curse didn't fully take effect until 1/3 into the episode. So, technically speaking, yes, it was rather rushed. No, Roger & Anita fell under the curse, right away... We learn why they've been cursed, half way in the Episode. And then they try to fix it. 3/4 in. There, Set Up, Explanation, Solution. Little known fact, but...All those are needed. This is a Half Hour episode, What we're you expecting, An Two Hour Long Story? I mean, This is a Disney Series, which are only allowed 65 episodes. You try your best to fit everything in. Granted I say, "Love 'Em Flea 'Em" should have been one full half hour story, but I don't bash it. Still, It goes at a good pace to those who are capable of paying attention. Yeah, But they will be cursed to be hypnotised against their will for all eternity. Which is pretty much the same thing. Actually, She did figure it out logically. She hears the town got cursed by a witch, just like a Fairy Tale. And then she tried snapping them out of it, I mean, Over 3-4 odd ways. She figures, since the towns backstory is like a, Fairy Tale... She tries the Fairy Tale approach. To The Atari Jaguar advert...DO THE MATH. No, Critics don't bash. Siskel & Ebert. Let's note them to be some of the best critics of all time...Did they BASH every single thing they saw? No... Spot says it has to be the curse of Hester Hen. I guess she did that, In case Judge Devil figured out how he could escape, his mind would have to be erased, so he wouln't figure out that he's meant to take the world. Besides, It's best to keep the world safe from knowledge of Devil Ville. They have to erase memories of magic from, Harry Potter Muggles, Same case here. Hey! Nostalgia Critic, doesn't bash. Let's note some things. While he hated, Jack Frost, he did say, It was a nice looking movie. "We're Back..." while he said it didn't make sense, the Animation was good. Casper, He complained about it, but did say it looked like the Film makers were trying to make something good. Call that Bashing? Despite the fact he inclueded...POSITIVE Points. You are not a Critic. Errr...They explain how her personality changes. She was cursed! "THE TOWN IS CURSED SO EVERYONE IN IT WOULD BE ENDLESSY HAPPY TO MAKE JUDGE DEVIL LOOK MORE MISERABLE IN COMPARISON!"They say that in the Episode. So when she gets kissed by Spot, she's free from the curse. Restoring her to her normal self. She even says, she feels like she was in a dream. And she does have a Backstory, She's Judge Devils Carriage Hound! Dalmatians were known to do that in the olden days. It's reviews like this that get me thinking that you're paying, NO ATTENTION to the episode at all. Well...You did the same. You didn't take it in a calm way either. You yelled louder than I did and your review shows you weren't paying any attention to the episode, nor have the capibility to guess by putting 2 and 2 together. I aplogise if I snapped like that, It's just it was 1AM in the morning and that you're wiping the Episode of not explaining anything, despite that fact that it does. Besides, You shouting at me about shouting? I wasn't the one who made my text, Ten times its size. It's A Fairy Tale Episode. I mean, I don't see you bashing, Snow White, Cinderella or any other Fairy Tales. You just made yourself look like a poor NC Wannabe. I'm able to understand the Episode just fine, And I am younger and have the same Autism case as you. To show that I can Critic though, I will say, Spot was somewhat elevated to a small Mary Sue in the episode. Other than that, The Episode is quite good and up there on the Top 10 Episodes. =3 There, My Two Cents with supported evidence. With my case explaining, Belchics questions. What you think?

I’m sorry, friend, but I agree with babclayman. There are a lot of things wrong with 101 Dalmatians: The Series, but the points that you’ve raised in some of your recent reviews just aren’t very good. And, as I’ve recommended before, review things in your own style; simply borrowing a bunch of Nostalgia Critic stuff is only going to hinder any points that you make. It’s unfortunate, too, as I wish more people would review episodes. I saw two reviews on youtube, one for Prophet & Loss and one for Treasure Of Swamp Island, and while the reviewer mutters at times and does make a few stupid arguments, some of the things he makes fun of are legitimately stupid. I wish more people did that sort of thing. Babclayman uploaded a commentary for Prophet & Loss, and that was alright, but the guy he was doing the commentary with totally ruined it. Harsh, I know, especially since I suspect they’re on this forum, but it is what it is. You should upload some solo reviews for some episodes, bab. There are episodes of the series that have legitimate problems and it could be fun to see people give the series a good ribbing. Upon further investigation, the person in the commentary with babclayman was Shadow Dearly. No disrespect, but I just didn't like your half of the commentary.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and you’re entitled to think that I’m a total jerk for saying what I said. However, not everybody is going to like what other people do online; if they did, then everybody would be the next Nostalgia Critic. I just liked babclayman’s side of the commentary more, and besides, he has a cool accent. In hindsight, however, I shouldn’t have said you “totally ruined it”, but I had been up all night and I wasn’t as thoughtful as I should have been.

I agree with Shadow AND Huntsman. Everybody has different opinions. If we all had the same opinion, the world would be quite boring. As for this episode, all you who are fans of it can like it all you want, but I still think it's one of the worst. Plain and simple.

Just letting you guys know, I'm thinking of revisiting my review of this episode. For the record, I have not changed my opinion on it. What I'm going to do is redo my review, but do it in a calmer approach, and I won't rip off the Nodtalgia Critic this time.
