This is very weird. I have no idea how American Idol is going to turn out this upcoming season. As everybody knows, Simon Cowell announced last season that he was leaving the show. But I just found out yesterday that Kara Dioguardi and Ellen DeGeneres are not going to be part of this upcoming season either! Man, American Idol is just not going to be the same anymore.

"As everyone knows"
Well, I never knew that, as I stopped caring for the show after the first show finished and with whatever number they're up to now....there is a very good reason I have stopped caring for these idol shows.
Seems like they're running out of artists and fast, and what's more, these winners all tend to have limited fame before they're forgotten in the end. I mean, that Clay fellow, no one has heard from him after the idol show, sure he's released, what, one CD/album, but that's it.
I don't really see any point for these shows in the end. American Idol, X Factor and whatever other singing related shows there are out there. I mean, after watching them and seeing of how many seasons they come out with, and what's more, local versions of the show....I mean, even over here we've had our fair share of "New Zealand Idol" or whatever it is they called it.

Since we don't get American Idol over here, I'll just talk about X-factor. Swings and roundabouts, right?
Anyway, aside from hogging viewers that could be watching half decent shows, they automatically expect the winner to have a Christmas No.1 (Rage Against the Machine, I salute you), then we never hear from them again (Only one that sticks out is Leona Lewis).
I think we're up to the 6th or 7th year now, and it's really starting to show. Hell, some people I could have sworn have been on every year, shows how much variety we have. This goes for BGT as well, mind.
All in all, the only reason I still watch it is because of the judges, specifically, Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole. Simon Cowell because I love the way he crushes people's hopes and dreams, therefore making me very happy, and Cheryl because omgsheissohotandlivessoclosetome<3
But uhh yeah, the show won't be the same without the original judges. Still, hope you get some good judges to replace them.

"Simon Cowell because I love the way he crushes people's hopes and dreams"
Let's be frank, that's more or less the only reason anyone watches the American version either (technically American Idol is our version of Pop Idol and not X-Factor but it's all the same. "America's Got Talent" is only one of those British ports that's watchable).

I have been watching American Idol. So far, this season is going pretty good. I actually like Steven Tyler a lot as a judge. I'll need some time to get used to Jennifer Lopez, though. And just think, this is only the beginning of the season!

I'm surprised that Randy has stayed instead of leaving with the rest of them

This season sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun. Next week, the Top 60 remaining contestants will perform on the LOVE stage in Vegas, and it will be narrowed down to the top 24. I wonder if we'll get to vote this week. Probably not, but it would be cool if we could.

Golly! Tonight's episode sure did end on a dramatic note! Makes me wonder if Jennifer Lopez is quitting after this season.

I really hate to say this, but I think this season, the girls are going to have the upper-hand. All of the girls this season have some kind of redeeming quality, but the only guys I see surviving a long time this season are Steffano and James. I am predicting that the winner for this season will be a girl, not only because of the reason I just stated, but we haven't had a female winner on this show since Jordin Sparks back in 2007.

Something I've noticed about this show is that in the Top 12 of every season, there are some contestants who fall under a specific category. Every season always seems to have... 1. A teen idol (a young boy who all the girls think is cute) 2. A rocker 3. A Janis Joplin wannabe (a female rocker) 4. A diva 5. A country singer 6. A guy with a weird name 7. A Sanjaya (Someone who's not a really good singer, yet he somehow manages to stay in the competition a long time.)
Now, I didn't start watching this show until Season 6, and every season, I've noticed at least one contestant who fell under all of those categories. If anyone has seen Seasons 1 through 5, I'd appreciate it if you helped me out by listing those as well.
Anyway, here are the ones from Seasons 6 through 10:
Season 6:
The teen idol: Blake Lewis The rocker: Phil Stacey The Janis Joplin wannabe: ? The diva: Lakisha Jones The country singer: Chris Richardson The guy with the weird name: Sanjaya Malakar The Sanjaya: Sanjaya Malakar (This is the singer where I got the name from. He is someone who has gone down in history as the worst Idol singer ever.)
Season 7:
The teen idol: David Archuletta The rocker: David Cook The Janis Joplin wannabe: Amanda Overmeyer The diva: Syesha Mercado The country singer: Kristy Lee Cook The guy with the weird name: Chikeze Eze The Sanjaya: Jason Castro
Season 8:
The teen idol: Kris Allen The rocker: Adam Lambert The Janis Joplin wannabe: Allison Irhaeta The diva: Lil Rounds The country singer: Michael Sarver The guy with the weird name: Anoop Desai The Sanjaya: Anoop Desai
Season 9:
The teen idol: Aaron Kelley The rocker: Casey James The Janis Joplin wannabe: Krystal Bowersox The diva: Paige Miles The country singer: Lacey Brown The guy with the weird name: Todrick Hall (He didn't make the Top 12, but he was the closest thing we got for this category.) The Sanjaya: Tim Urban
Season 10 (this current season):
The teen idol: Stefano Langone The rocker: James Durbin The Janis Joplin wannabe: Haley Reinheart The diva: Ashton Jones The country singer: Scotty McCreery The guy with the weird name: Stefano Langone The Sanjaya: Paul McDonald

The Sanjaya for Season 10 is Steven Tyler. BA-ZING!
In all seriousness does anyone actually expect him to replace Simon Cowell?

Actually reading the other comments it appears he has so ah, carry on as such.
(legitimately does wonder if old Tyler can still sing better than the contestants)

I don't understand tonight's episode. Paul closed off the show, and everyone got so obsessed with the song that they continued to play it through the credits and all the contestants, judges, hosts and crew members all danced to it. I mean, come on, it was not THAT big a deal!
