I just watched TFITC's lookback at the animated films of 2010. He only reviewed the ones he has seen. He hasn't seen "Alpha and Omega", "Legend of the Guardians" or "The Illusionist" yet. At the end of his vid, he briefly talked about the upcoming animated films of this year. Here's what I have to say about them...
Gnomeo and Juliet looks like one I can miss, but if someone forced me to go see it with them, I'd watch it.
Winnie the Pooh I'll probably wait for the DVD.
Cars 2 I may want to check out. I did say Cars was my least favorite Pixar film thus far, but the sequel looks better.
Rio looks pretty cool.
Rango, I don't know.
Kung Fu Panda 2 I might give a shot.
Happy Feet 2, I'll pass.
Puss in Boots...WTF? They said they were done with the Shrek series, so I guess they decided to now make a spin-off. Nice try, Dreamworks, but it ain't workin'.
and Arthur Christmas, I'll wait until I get more info on it before I make my decision on that.

Interesting movies, and I've seen trailers for the gnome film which.. I think I'll pass, along with Cars 2 especially since.. to me, Cars did not need a sequel at all. It was just average at best. However, I may try to see Winnie the Pooh... long after it's been out so I don't have to deal with an unruly audience.

Hmm, I believe it's been about Five years since the previous, Pooh movie. So, that may be worth a look. ;3 However, I got the feeling, Racefan will love the Cars on. James Bond styles, Chases, Explosions & Nascar Racing. It's alot of items he likes in One. X3
I'll probably ignore Happy Feet too, as I saw the first one on a plane and My Dad & I didn't see what the big fuss on it was. I bet it's cause, audience brought, Dancing Penguins. O.o
With, Puss, definately a Cash In, they just can't let Shrek franchise keep any dignity, eh? =s
Still, I also know this other film coming out. Gnomeo & Juliett...Film Title + Trailer = Definate Miss!
Still, I look forward to what you, Pups think on the matter. *Hugs* X3

I actually didn't like the first Cars on release but it has grown on me. I guess the whole world being populated by cars instead of just people driving them just felt weird (plus I originally found casting Richard "The King" Petty as a car to be blasphemous, I mellowed when I heard Petty told them the same thing then decided to do it anyway).I did see the twist with Doc Hudson coming a mile away though (any NASCAR fan worth his salt knows the Faboulous Hudson Hornet and how that is the only reason anyone remembers those cars) and eventually have come to like it. The racing scene at the start is a lot more realistic than some live-action NASCAR I liked have had. Sequel should be fun with all the new race cars and gags.
Happy Feet 2! They made a second one?! Great another eco-propoganda flick disguised as a kid's film. Just once I'd like to see a kid's movie where industry and jobs for the community aren't pure evil.
Arthur Christmas actually looks pretty good from the teaser trailer I saw. That one is pretty much a modern "Santa" movie. Should be good, although its CGI Aardman is doing it and they have a decent track record.

Hmmmn... ~ To be honest, the selection of animated movies for this year thus far aren't quite as promising as previous years. I might end up seeing one or two, but there's really none that I just /really/ gotta see (such as last year with Toy Story III, oh geez, I went spastic for that one xD. Or even Tangled, which looked great and definitely met my expectations). The most likely I'll probably go see are either Rango or Rio. I mean, Rango has Johnny Depp, that alone is reason enough - character seems fun and quirky enough for me too. :3 And Rio looks like it could hold some promise. I've only seen one trailer for that and it doesn't look that bad, although some may groan at the sight of another animated bird film. I am curious to see where they take that movie. A wide portion of many of the other upcoming animated films are sequels of... well, animated films that were /OK/, but not incredible in my opinion. I quite enjoyed Cars (I share names with one of the characters in that movie, buhehehe) and Happy Feet was pretty good. Kung Fu Panda... didn't really grow on me to be honest, although Jack Black makes a pretty kickin' panda, I must admit. xD Anyway, my opinion on seeing sequels for any of these films are... well, it just seems to me that all of those movies ended on a perfectly good note and really didn't need any sequels to them. I just feel like an animated movie can't get away without having a sequel these days. I hunger for more original ideas ! -glances at Gnomeo and Juliet- Er, well... it's original, I'll give them that. Well, sort of. I mean, it's based off of... yeah. But it has... gnomes, instead x'D. I may end up just seeing it if I end up bringing my 12 year old sis to the theatre, or I might just go at like, midnight with a bunch of friends after drinking liter upon liter of Mountain Dew. XD

Here's my thoughts: Gnomeo and Juliet is like Romeo and Juliet with garden gnomes? I don't know. Winnie the Pooh I will see. I am guessing the reason this is being done is so Disney can have an official Pooh film. I mean The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh was three shorts in one film and movies like The Tigger Movie, Piglet's Big Movie and Pooh's Heffalump Movie did not feature Pooh prominently. Cars 2 I don't think looks all that great. I didn't even like the first movie. Rio, maybe. Rango, I don't know. Kung Fu Panda 2 yes. I liked the first movie and it should be fun hearing Jean Claude Van Damme in his first animated role. Happy Feet 2, the first movie was kinda incoherent. Probably not. Puss in Boots I will probably want to see this one. Arthur Christmas, need more info. Then there is the movie that stars Marvin the Martian. It sounds really bad.

I think I changed my mind about Happy Feet 2. I might check it out since I kinda liked the first one, but I won't see it theatrically. I'll wait for the DVD.

I'll end up seeing all of them. I work at a movie theater so I get free passes so I'm just like I'll see it since it's not really costing me anything. But let's say I'm not working there by the time Rio comes out. I'd still see Rio, and Cars II. Arthur Christmas sounds OKAY. And can't wait till the new Chipmunks movie.

I love to take all the happy dancing, global warming propaganda-pushing penguins from Happy Feet and introduce them to Liam Neeson and tell Liam they kidnapped his daughter. If you don't get the joke, go watch "Taken." Actually, watch "Taken" anyway. For a French movie shot in English it is really, really good. And here's the teaser for Arthur Christmas, which as I said looks good... www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOihV9KLYP8Gnomeo and Juliet released this week in the US, it generally looks like that's a dud (despite a lot of marketing it opened at No.3) soon to making an appearence in the discount section at Target.

It kinda looks like CGI-animated films are off to a rough start this year.
Rango did okay ($23 million after Battle: LA’s #1 take at $36 million). Otherwise, like RaceFanX said Gnomeo and Juliet is pretty much a dud and now with an opening box-office gross of $6.8 million Mars Needs Moms looks like it's next stop is to be Gnomeo and Juliet's shelf neighbor.

Yeah, A Film with That Title is bound to be a Dud. =s Sounds like some, 1950's B-Movie/PSA. ^^;
Why can't, CGI Companies make Good Films? CGI isn't going to save a Film. You also need an Element of, Good Writing. Why do you think, Pixar do so good? It's cause they actually give a Dang about their Story & Creations, not just if, CGI. =3
Although, I have heard something. They'll soon be releasing a new, Mortal Kombat Film along with a New, Popeye Film. o.o Along with what I hear to be, an Oz Movie...Although, Those may be in 2012. ^^;
Still, I look forward to hearing more in this thread, Pups. *Hugs* X3

"Mars Needs Moms" is a motion-capture from the same company, Robert Zemeckis' ImageMovers Digital, that did the successful "Polar Express" and "Monster House." They had already decided to disband the company after this last movie, shame they had to go out on a dud.

Popeye? *facepalm* why can't they leave classics ALONE.
As for Mars Needs Moms, it looks okay (especially the graphics, it's like you could walk up and go straight into the movie), but too me the alien female character in the commercial reminds me too much of the Avatar aliens.... navi.. things.

That's exactly what I thought when "Planet 51" came out. Also, like you said, bab. Pixar is making good CGI films, and the reason they're so successful is because they put most of their focus on the story alone. Now, for the upcoming films you just mentioned, I don't think those are animated movies, but here's what I have to say: 1. That Mortal Kombat movie has been rumored for a long time. It was in Production Hell since like 2003! It was suposed to come out in 2005, but was postponed to 2007, then to 2008, then to 2010, and now, I've been hearing nothing about it. 2. They're doing a Popeye movie? Didn't they already make a live-action Popeye movie back in 1980 with Robin Williams? 3. Oh, great, just as youngbloodfantasy91 was fearing, they're remaking "The Wizard of Oz"! Sounds to me like Hollywood is choosing to believe in the 2012 rumor and just getting all their crappy ideas out of the way before the world ends! Those are my thoughts.
