I've got some more for MLP.
1: Big Macintosh. 2: Lyra Heartstrings and Bon Bon. 3: Vinyl Scrach and Octavia. 4: Dinky Doo. 5: Colgate and Carrot Top.
Well, technically there are HEAPS, but These are the ones I can think of for now.

Here's another one:
Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer (2000)
As bad as it may have been, some people claim it's So Bad It's Good partly due to Cousin Mel, the special's villain.

This one is a bit of a no-brainer:
Despicable Me (2010)
Obviously, Gru's minions. They take up about 90% of the film's promotional material.

I think in a similar fashion, if you look at the Madagascar movies: The penguins are intended to be supporting characters, but every time they're on screen, they always steal the show. Also, much like Timon and Pumbaa, their popularity spin off their own TV series.

I think I can confirm that Everest is the dark horse of PAW Patrol.

The list of MLP dark horses is quite long. So long that TV Tropes had to give it its own page!

Here's another one:
Beavis and Butthead (1993)
As cool as they were on the show, Daria is the series' Darkhorse. It was to the point she got her own show in 1997.

In 101 dalmatian the series definitely the true Patch, the solid, tough one of a kind one. Im sure he would give Lucky's popularity a run for his money.
Penny she could have been Patch's sidekick.
Toad and toadette, it would be cool if nintendo made a game just for them. A 3d one mind you.

As hard as this may be to believe...
The Emoji Movie
Considering the whole cast is either boring, stupid, annoying or outright detestable, there is at least one character that is actually likable and that is Akiko Glitter in the Just Dance app. It's too bad though that she is the one character that more or less dies.
Also the turd Emoji voiced by Patrick Stewart. Some viewers say they would preferred that he be Gene's partner in place of Hi-5 because while the movie would now have a certain Squick factor, he would have made the movie a bit more tolerable.

There's two in one movie:
The Lego Movie
First of all, Batman. He got his own spin-off movie which was very successful.
Also, Princess Unikitty. She is getting a spin-off cartoon series on CN.
