Here is a revised take on the five pups I felt like keeping from my old roster. It was nice visiting them again. Not much has changed really, but I needed to re-familiarize myself with them on my own terms. I have not included any past relationships in their bios. Not because I wasn't thankful for having these pups romantically linked with others, but rather because I am pending if I still have the rights to have them be with said characters. I never felt like I handled those romances with respect to the other creators, and if they are willing to keep them, I'd love to mend that.
Kit
Creators comment: The earliest iteration of Kit was more of a recluse and somewhat dodgily written. I linked him up with roma culture and tried portraying him with an ambiguous disorder, both of which I never felt was maturely handled. At best I was romanticizing otherness and at worst I was being flat out offensive with his portrayal, even if I only saw those background traits as interesting at the time. His background was also way too convoluted and didn't really tie in well with the rest of the boards. I did away with most of that in my previous revamp, and that version is pretty much the same you see here. I kept his core traits, loving dance and music and built on that making him a tad precocious and pretentious. The first Kit didn't really have much flaws, only informed ones.
Gender: Male
Nickname: Kittie (by close friends)
Breed: Dalmatian
Eye color: Brown
Build: Androgynous/Gender non-conforming
Weight: Lithe
Distinctive traits: Blue collar, Eye spot around left eye, golden earring in the right ear, visible eyelashes
Sexuality: Homosexual
Alignment: Good
Likes: Running, Dancing, Nature, Listening to music (Classical in particular) in the attic, Tagging along with his much more adventurous and decisive friends
Dislikes: People who anger easily, People act overtly tough and bully others, threats to the farm & its surrounding nature
Personality: Nice, Soft spoken, A bit precocious, A follower more than a leader
Bio: Kit's first pet was a young female human who loved to dance. She also loved Kit. She would dance and practice for hours and always bring Kit along. Pets can't be alone for long, Kit had deduced, and was happy that his pet stayed active while listening to beautiful music. At week ends they would take walks in the forest and enjoy the many smells of nature together. Sometimes they ran. One day his pet got a piece of paper in the mail that seemed to make her very happy, but then very, very sad. Kit tried to comfort her, but nothing seemed to help. She said she had to go to a place called "The dance conservatory of her dreams" and that it was really important. Kit understood that his pet needed something that their tiny apartment, the dance studio, and the nature walks couldn't give her. He was sad to see her leave, but comforted himself in the thoughts that he had made the right decision to let her go.
Kit then moved out to a more communal living space with other dogs. It was cramped, but beggars can't be choosers. He hoped he'd soon find a suitable space with a new pet. Sadly, the kennel was broken into by two wild humans, named Horace and Jasper. Wild humans can be dangerous. These ones turned out to be kidnappers. The events that followed were unclear and unmentionable, but in the end two heroic dogs named Pongo and Perdita came to their rescue and brought them with them, arranging for him and a whole host of dalmatians to live on a farm. Some of the dalmatian pups took to calling these two mom & dad, with Pongo and Perdita's blessing, but Kit found that their first names worked fine.
Frida
Creators note: Frida and Flux became siblings in the revamp. Their story is kind of a take on how people can have the same background yet grow up to be completely different people. One sees the good in the world and manages to use that to have a good life. The other, more realistic one, sees the hurt and pays dearly for it.
Gender: Female
Breed: Dalmatian
Eye color: Brown
Height: Smaller
Weight: Lithe
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Alignment: Evil
Likes: Being in the company of and accepted among evil-minded creatures, feeling secure, being in control, being on the winning team
Dislikes: Loud, playful pups, being alone, other people judging her
Personality: Calculated, Quiet, Opportunistic
Bio: Frida and her brother Flux shared a difficult pet. One that never behaved predicatively. He would put splotches of paint on a large white sheet for hours, rarely touch his food and rarely sleep, playing loud distorted music into the long hours of night. He wasn't particularly house trained often leaving foul smelling bottles around the house and never cleaning after himself. Sometimes he wouldn't let Frida, nor Flux have their food. He would sometimes want play with them, but Frida couldn't bring herself to do it. It was always the pet that decided what was going to happen, not the other way around. She didn't want him to have that kind of misbehaving control. Worst of all was the rampant screaming he would do. Frida hated to admit how scared she was of their pet. Flux wanted them to keep on trying with him. Kept saying how they seemed to be making progress with their pet, but Frida wouldn't have it, and she knew her brother would pay for showing his heart one day.
That day never came. Instead Flux and Frida were abducted. Frida remembers her brother being frightened, and lacking the strength to care. She remembers many like her. Then soot, then snow. Then a farm. It was more quiet than anything Frida had been on. More peaceful. Why? Was this even real? Frida had no idea what to do. She felt like she had to pretend. She saw her brother playing along with the others. Was he pretending to? But then one day, a group of dogs sought her out for her quietness. Someone who knew exactly what to do. What to do to be in control.
Flux
Gender: Male
Breed: Dalmatian
Eye color: Blue
Height: Average
Build: Athletic (Tripod-ish)
Distinctive traits: Orange Collar, White ears with three black dots resembling piercings, Hair tuft
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Alignment: Good
Likes: Helping others, making friends, the bark brigade, listening to stories, the creativeness of others pups
Dislikes: Others feeling sad, Bullies, Conflicts, Feeling shameful
Personality: Nice, well meaning, a little bit of a pushover
Bio: Flux and his sister Frida shared a difficult pet. One that often seemed to wail out against the moon as if something had disturbed him. One that had night terrors and never really seemed to find comfort in his life. One with many passions, often trying to create. Flux knew their pet was a huge responsibility, one perhaps a little too big for two small pups. But he wanted to keep on trying. Ever so often there was a bright spot. A smile. A thrown stick for him to collect. They just had to be patient and show him love. Frida told him it simply wasn't worth it. Some pets are simply too troubled, and that they will cost more than they give. Deep down, Flux knew she was probably right, but he didn't want to give up on someone who needed them more than they knew.
Then one day, everything changed. Flux remembers a sack, the sound of loud cars, and in the end; smiles from others such as himself. People he could talk to about everything and who understood. A bark brigade for active pups. Brothers and Sisters. A mom and a dad, something he had never had before, who listened and help him come to terms with his first pet. That taught him that while everyone deserves love, it can be difficult if you're the only one in a relationship that is giving it.
Anya (second gen)
Creators note: I always loved writing Anya. Her mood writes itself. Some might say I'm treading a line by giving her a cooky accent (which isn't really supposed to be any accent in particular), but I also have a very cooky accent in real life when I speak English, so this rather familiar territory. I re-imagined her as having grown up with tons of older expat dogs from various European countries which is where her accent stems from.
Gender: Female
Breed: Dalmatian
Eye color: Brown
Height: Average
Build: Lithe
Distinctive traits: Red Collar, Triangular spot around right eye, Earring in left ear
Sexuality: Pansexual
Alignment: Good
Likes: Playing in the woods, fairytales and make-believe, nice people, talking a lot, frogs, salamanders, spiders
Dislikes: Feeling sad, people who tell her she's weird/childish
Personality: Bubbly, cheerful, extroverted, wears every single emotion on her paws in a grand way
Bio: Hellooo! Ah'm Anya, verra nice to meet ye! When Ah was only a tiny pup, Ah had no pets, but some humans came and shared their kibble with me. Ah lived in a big room with lot's o o'er older dogs. Their names were Strong eyes, Parthenon, Speedy, Minnie, Jasper, Captain, Centa, Fiji, Hero, Burger, Tillie, Otto, Colt and Dexter *inhales* They told me tha' the humans misplaced a verra important paper so Ah ended up with them by mistake, but they said they were verra happy to welcome a wee pup like me among them an' tha' it made them smile. Ah like makin' o'ers smile! Ah can nah remember havin' any real family, but when ye think about it, Ah had ten dads and foive mums, so Ah am verra lucky! They told me many excitin' fairy tales and stories from their lives! Ah loooove stories! Uhm...
Oh! Aye! The older dogs were all headin' to a farm, but the humans said tha's no place for a tiny dalmation girl, but they knew jus' the place! It is called Dearly farm and Ah live there now. Ah have many friends there! There is Myles, Tai and... Oh and also! Did ye know there are many frogs in the forest ponds? They jump around and are very silly! Ah try not to frighten the poor little things. Also, there are big dogs there. One is called Kit and he watches over me a bit. Uhm.. Ah have to run now, cause the others say we are gonna play with the ball! Byyee!
Reuben (2nd gen)
Creators comment: Reuben was a broody dog I never really got to play out properly. If I have a chance to use him again, I'll try to give him more of an actual personality.
Gender: Male
Breed: Dalmatian
Eye color: Blue
Height: Slightly bigger than average
Build: Athletic (Tripod-ish)
Distinctive traits: Black Collar, White ears with two black dots resembling piercings, Hair tuft, a splotch of black covering his eyes in a horizontal stripe almost like a crude domino mask
Sexuality: Demisexual
Alignment: Neutral
Likes: Feeling useful, physical activities that burn off energy and steam
Dislikes: Being picked on, being talked about behind his back, being lonely
Personality: Stoic, wary, insecure, emotional, prone to anger, big softie on the inside, cries easily when no one is looking
Bio: Reuben is Frida's son. A mother who was distant at best, perhaps in fear of making him resemble her too much. Frida's life lessons were ill-adviced at best and Reuben's primary socialization was always stunted. Unlike the other pups, Reuben had difficulty making friends and he knew it. Often when the others were playing in the fields he would stand there alone, wanting someone to make contact with him, unaware of how to approach others. Upon the rare occasions when he was approached, Reuben's insecurities about not being liked turned into a solid armor, scaring most of the pups off. He has on more than one occasion stormed angrily out of playing. He is currently aiming to join the bark brigade, hoping there will be something for him there.
