Hello Pups!
I got some big news!
Some weeks ago, I won an EBay Listing for a Signed First Draft Script to the "101 Dalmatians: The Series" Episode, "Oozy Does It", and...well...IT'S ARRIVED!
So, I have been going through the script, and commenting on what it says, and how it differs from the aired episode.
The first thing I notice is that the script actually does state what the moral of the episode is, that one may feel there's nothing they can do about the wrongs of the world, but everyone CAN make a difference, which is a good message.
A MAJOR difference this Draft Script has, however, is a Subplot featuring the Sludge covered Pups being filmed, which gets the attention of the News and puts pressure on Cruella to stop polluting. I assume this was cut for time, as the episode is suppose to be Ten or Eleven minutes long, and this would have made it a Twenty Minute episode.
I admit, the idea does sound like it would be more relevant today, since we got video cameras in our pockets, and it has become easier to spread that video to the mass public!
On top of that, when Cruella's Pool gets the slime tossed on it and she is confronted by the press, Cruella tries to promote her jeans, leading to Steven to biting her backside (in a call back to how her jeans jingle is "Jeans so tight, they bite!") until Cruella agrees to clean up Hiccup Hole.
I do notice as well, while the draft script doesn't mention it, the aired episode does bring up that there are laws against pollution, but Cruella chooses to willfully ignore it, claiming she didn't realise it was going to affect her.
Another big difference is that, while the aired episode begins on Lucy ranting about the Pups, the draft script begins on the Pups themselves, with Lucy not showing up until after the Pups get covered in the sludge. On top of that, Horace & Jasper are seen at Hiccup Hole before the Pups reach the Jeans Factory, and the two proceed to chase the Pups along the Jeans Assembly line, while in the aired episode, they just drive off.
The draft script also features Cruella making a different Memo to herself, reminding her to broadcast the Jeans Advert to every network, every night! As I mention, this Memo doesn't appear in the episode itself.
Something that doesn't appear in the Draft Script are the "Side Effects" which the Pollution causes, shown on both Spot & Cruella in the aired episode.
Lucky's "A Small Group Can Make A Big Difference" speech is not present in the draft script, either. I guess they added it later as they felt they needed to make it clear that's what the moral is...and, they probably make a wink to how "This Is The Moral" by having Lucky give that speech while standing on top of a literal Soap Box!
Those are the major differences I can find in the draft script, but it is definately intriguing on how there was literally an entire subplot dedicated to the pollution getting media attention!
There any other details on the draft script, which you are curious on, Pups!?
