Well, I just got out from seeing Encanto. It was a fun movie. The songs were a lot of fun, and the characters were interesting, but overall, it wasn’t anything special to me. If anything, it felt unoriginal. At first, it felt like a fusion of Moana and Coco, but then I noticed Disney was just recycling tropes and cliches from their previous films. Then again, I’m sure it’s still going to be a big hit since that’s basically what all Disney fans want these days. Surprisingly, AniMatt hasn’t uploaded his review of the movie yet. I don’t know why. Also, babclayman was right about the 60th movie milestone logo. Oh, and one more thing: The short that played before the film, “Far From the Tree”, was cute and had some impressive animation, but it felt too similar to Pixar’s “Piper”.

Now AniMatt have uploaded his review of Encanto. I guess he delayed it to do some edits for copyright reasons. Anyway, his scores?
Story: 9/10 Animation: 10/10 Characters: 9/10 Songs: 9/10
Overall: 9/10 = 93%
I think it’s safe to say that this is now AniMatt’s pick for the best animated film of 2021 just barely edging out Raya and the Last Dragon!
1. Encanto - 93% 2. Raya and the Last Dragon - 90% 3. Luca - 87% 4. The Mitchells vs. the Machines - 83% 5. Vivo - 80% 6. My Little Pony: A New Generation - 70% 7. Ron’s Gone Wrong - 67% 8. PAW Patrol: The Movie - 67% 9. Wish Dragon - 60% 10. The Boss Baby: Family Business - 57% 11. Spirit: Untamed - 47% 12. The Addams Family 2 - 40%
Now all we got left is Sing 2 to give us the final decisions. I’m guessing he’ll put it somewhere right in the middle.

Well, good to hear that he liked it.
I have a good feeling about Sing 2, it will definitely be a big draw during the Christmas season.
That reminds me...

Well, much to my surprise, AniMatt reviewed another animated film for this year: the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie on Disney+. As for what he thought of it?
Story: 7/10 Animation: 6/10 Characters: 4/10
Overall: 6/10 = 57%
So where does it stand?
Diary of a Wimpy Kid - 57% 11. The Boss Baby: Family Business - 57% 12. Spirit: Untamed - 47% 13. The Addams Family 2 - 40%
Just enough to edge the Paw Patrol movie out of the top 5 worst! Now, we have to wait and see how Sing 2 fairs here.

Well, I just found out today that the submissions for Best Animated Feature Nominee for the Oscars were just submitted last week! Here they are:
“The Addams Family 2” “The Ape Star” “Back to the Outback” “Belle” “Bob Spit – We Do Not Like People” “The Boss Baby: Family Business” “Cryptozoo” “Encanto” “Flee” “Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko” “Josee, the Tiger and the Fish” “The Laws of the Universe – The Age of Elohim” “Luca” “The Mitchells vs. the Machines” “My Sunny Maad” “Paw Patrol The Movie” “Pompo the Cinephile” “Poupelle of Chimney Town” “Raya and the Last Dragon” “Ron’s Gone Wrong” “Sing 2” “The Spine of Night” “Spirit Untamed” “The Summit of the Gods” “Vivo” “Wish Dragon”
It doesn’t look like “My Little Pony: A New Generation” got submitted, but I am surprised that the PAW Patrol movie did!
Since there are 26, that means we will have five nominations this year. If I was to make my predictions, I would say: Belle Encanto Flee Luca The Mitchells vs. the Machines
However, the nominees for the Golden Globes were announced not too long ago, and they are: Encanto Flee Luca My Sunny Maad Raya and the Last Dragon
That might be a hint as to what the nominations at the Oscars might look like, but we’ll see. Either way, I am happy to see “Raya and the Last Dragon” get a nomination somewhere, even though I doubt it’ll win.
Still, I’m sure this is going to cause a lot of backlash from a lot of people.

Well, it appears Rumble was just released today! That was unexpected. Though it’s been released directly to Paramount+.

So now, AniMat has reviewed “Back to the Outback”.
Story: 3/10 Animation: 8/10 Characters: 4/10
Overall: 5/10 = 50%
So now we got an even worse film to add!
Diary of a Wimpy Kid - 57% 11. The Boss Baby: Family Business - 57% 12. Back to the Outback - 50% 13. Spirit: Untamed - 47% 14. The Addams Family 2 - 40%
He plans to also review Rumble as well as Sing 2. I predict Rumble will get his Seal of Garbage, and Sing 2 will probably be in the 70% range.

I just heard that Canada is doing another lockdown due to the rising number of COVID cases. That being said, AniMatt will not be able to review Sing 2 right away. I hope this doesn’t effect the US too.

Overall: 6/10 = 60%
So since he is unable to review Sing 2, we now have his final rankings of the films of this year:
1. Encanto - 93% 2. Raya and the Last Dragon - 90% 3. Luca - 87% 4. The Mitchells vs. the Machines - 83% 5. Vivo - 80% 6. My Little Pony: A New Generation - 70% 7. Ron’s Gone Wrong - 67% 8. Regardless of what's going on in Canada, we just got Sing 2 in the US. Right now it's RT critical consensus is:
Second verse, same as the first: For audiences that enjoyed the first installment, Sing 2 should prove another endearing diversion.
It's critical score is only 67%, however, audiences seem to have a much better opinion at 98%.
I know what I'm seeing today!

Alright! So I just got out from seeing Sing 2! I thought it was a fun movie and a worthy successor to its predecessor. I was actually surprised with it! I’d say it was even better than the first one! That being said, I hope Illumination will consider making a Sing 3! Now that I finally saw it, I can now finally do what I have been waiting to do pretty much all year and reveal my picks for the best and worst animated films of 2021! MY TOP 5 BEST: #5 - Encanto #4 - Sing 2 #3 - My Little Pony: A New Generation #2 - PAW Patrol: The Movie #1 - Raya and the Last Dragon MY TOP 5 WORST: #5 - Wish Dragon #4 - Addams Family 2 #3 - Spirit Untamed #2 - Diary of a Wimpy Kid #1 - Rumble Now, I have eight others that are honorable mentions. If you’re wondering where I would rank them, I would probably put Vivo, The Mitchells vs. The Machines, Rock Dog 2, and Luca in the BEST category, while the WORST category would have The Loud House Movie, Back to the Outback, Ron’s Gone Wrong and The Boss Baby: Family Business. Now, if you’re curious about my thoughts on what is to come of 2022, you can read about it in my first post in this thread: sparkydearly.proboards.com/thread/9527/animated-films-2022
