I suppose a disclaimer is needed. Attention: If somebody posts an opinion that is counter to yours, and it offends your sensibilities, deal with it. Last I checked, people don’t register on a forum to be coddled; they register to participate in discussion. If somebody posts something that you disagree with, post in kind to explain why you disagree with them and then reveal what you believe instead. A civilized discussion? Imagine that! If you are unable to participate in said discussion and feel more inclined to burst into tears, do so, but keep it out of this topic. If that sounds harsh, I apologize, but it was necessary.
As with the previous topic, this pertains to both pairings in the series as well as pairings outside of the series. It can be used to discuss concepts of shipping in general, or can be use to express support for, or denunciation of, certain pairings. The previous topic began with a list of pairings from the show, so I’ll get the ball rolling once more. Please keep in mind that this topic allows discussion of all pairings, canon or otherwise.
Lucky / Two-Tone: People kept saying that this pairing wasn’t canon because it didn’t carry over into other episodes. However, the mere fact that it occurred in an episode makes it canon, and the only reason it didn’t carry over into other episodes is because all sixty-five episodes were written at roughly the same time and the writers weren’t able to include much continuity. Others tried to claim that their relationship was completely platonic and that they went to the date as brother and sister, to help one another out, or to allow Two-Tone to get revenge on Mooch. I pointed out that Two-Tone envisioned Lucky with hearts fluttering about, and Lucky responded to her with a soft growl that implied he felt the same way. As it stands, I feel that the series supports this pairing and there is little room for interpretation; the writers meant for them to be in love, incest or otherwise. Although it wouldn’t surprise me if the writers of that episode simply got their dogs mixed up and thought Two-Tone was one of the adopted ones, making their relationship less egregious.
Lucky / [/b]Rebecca[/b]: I must confess that I don’t quite know what to make of this one. Would Lucky have fallen in love with Rebecca if it weren’t for the curse? He seemed to be in control of his faculties when conversing with her, at least to some extent, but the moment he gazed upon her he became incoherent. However, the one thing that I noticed is that, after Spot kissed Lucky, Lucky immediately told his friends that they needed to find Anita and Roger and get out of town. He completely ignored Rebecca, and if she didn’t say anything, he probably would have just left her there without saying another word. I’m not sure what to make of that, but it seems to imply that his feelings for her were more a product of the curse than anything else. Lucky does ask her to come with him at the end, but he doesn’t try very hard to convince her and it could have simply been a product of guilt. Food for thought, none-the-less.
Cadpig / Blaze: I don’t believe this was more than a brief infatuation, and frankly, I believe Cadpig was merely enamored by Blaze’s rich lifestyle. Once it was revealed that he was merely a fraud, basing all of his “adventures” on things he saw on television, I believe Cadpig would have been completely disinterested in him. I mean, she has mocked Lucky on several occasions throughout the series because of his obsession with television and his tendency to make up stories in a similar manner, so I can only imagine what she would have said to him should that scene at the end of the episode continued for a bit longer.
Cadpig / Mooch: It was a lie. While Mooch seemed to have genuine feelings for Cadpig, she was simply toying with him, controlling him like putty and then throwing him away when she was done with him. It really casts a different light on Cadpig; it was probably somewhat out-of-character for her to do what she did, but since it is canon, it shows that she has rather questionable morals. I mentioned in the previous topic that she would make a good spy because she would have no qualms about sleeping with the enemy, but I don’t think they have spies in the Bark Brigade.
There are some others, but I’m not interested in them. But what about you? Do you agree with my assessments or do you think I’m an idiot? Express your thoughts! Still, there are plenty of other movies and shows in existence. Are there any other pairings for any other work that you particularly like or dislike? The previous topic began included some of the pairings from Sonic The Hedgehog, but the only part of that franchise that I genuinely enjoy is Sonic SatAM, so it’s obvious that I prefer Sonic / Sally far more than the common Sonic / Amy. Dare I say the best thing about Sonic SatAM was that Amy wasn’t a character? Oh, I just did.
I’m not really much of a shipper. I like adorable things and if a couple is particularly adorable together, I will support them, but I seldom become a cheerleader for them. I’m not a big fan of homosexual pairings, although I think I would like them more if the internet was actually gender neutral. You can find people pairing males together all across the internet, but very few people pair female characters together. Perhaps I’m somewhat immature for wanting there to be more lesbian pairings, but there is a certain allure to them. I’m a big fan of The Penguins Of Madagascar, but just about all of the pairings that you’ll find online for that show involve two male characters, except for Skipper / Marlene, which is fairly popular amongst the fandom. I rather liked Becky / Stacy, the two badgers from “Badger Pride”, although I think I liked that more because they were sisters… *cough*
So… does anybody want to try to discuss this topic civilly this time? Give peace a chance, eh wot?
