The nominees are out...
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM OF THE YEAR "How to Train Your Dragon"(Paramount) "The Illusionist"(Sony Pictures Classics) "Toy Story 3" (Walt Disney)
"Toy Story 3" is probably a lock as expected, it is now the third animated movie and second from Pixar to be nominated for Best Picture. However it's almost certainly going to lose that one, all the hype for that one seems to be directed toward "The King's Speech."

A few other animated nominations...
Toy Story 3 for... Best Original Song (Rany Newman's "We Belong Together") Achievement in Sound Editing (among the other nominees is Unstoppable, my favorite film last year) Adapted Screenplay
How to Train Your Dragon for... Best Original Score
BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM "Day & Night" "The Gruffalo" "Let’s Pollute" "The Lost Thing" "Madagascar, carnet de voyage (Madagascar, a Journey Diary)" (I haven't heard of any of those but Night and Day)

Ah, Well the Grufallo is a Half Hour CGI British Production showed at Christmas 2009, about a Mouse going through a Forest, and making up a story of this beast to scare off the other Animals, before he actually meets one and tricks it into thinking the Mouse is the most feared... Best you check it, should be on Youtube, I guess. ^^;
Still, I wonder what will get the Awards, I predict, Night & Day will get something. But that's my Guess. X3
Still, Looking forward to hearing the results. *Hugs* X3

Pretty shocking that we only got three nominees because so many great animated movies came out last year.

That may be the result of the fact that traditionally only three films get nominated in this category (look at 2009 only WALL-E, Kung Fu Panda and Bolt were nominated).
Odd the obscure "Illusionist" was nominated. But its from the same guy that did "Los Triplets de Bellevelle" and the Academy loves arthouse stuff like that. ("Bellevelle" is actually a really good film as well and its nomination a few years ago was well-earned. I haven't seen "Illusionist.")

And the winner, as expected, was Toy Story 3. If an animated film scores a Best Picture nod usually that's a sign it's a lock.

And the winner for Animated Short is "The Lost Thing." I still have no idea what it is but IMDB says it's the story of "A boy finds a strange creature on a beach, and decides to find a home for it in a world where everyone believes there are far more important things to pay attention to."

And the winner, as expected, was Toy Story 3. If an animated film scores a Best Picture nod usually that's a sign it's a lock. Yeah, I knew from the beginning that would be a no-brainer. Speaking of which, did it win for Best Picture too?

No, Toy Story 3 didn't win Best Picture. The King's Speech did.

The King's Speech? I never heard of that; sounds like the name of a cliche children's book. By the way, here's something I think you guys should check out:

"King's Speech" is a British film about King George VI (Queen Elizabeth's long dead Dad) and how he gets speech training.
And yeah, the Annie's are very likely heavily rigged in DreamWorks favor (as that video mentioned, that's been suspected since Kung Fu Panda somehow beat WALL-E in every category). Like all Hollywood award shows (including the Oscars) there's a lot of "whining and dining" the voters (not already on the payroll as the video brought up) and it's widely suspected that DreamWorks focus most of their attempts to swing the voters on the Annies because they know Pixar is an 'academy darling' likely to take the Oscar.

The Kings Speech isn't a Childrens Book, It's actually based off a True Story.
Where, One of the Kings of, England (I think, George VI) had a Speech Problem, meaning he kept stuttering, and so he enroles in Speech lessons, so he can make a Proper Announcment. ;3 It's a British Film, so you probably havn't heard of it yet, But it is quite wild at the moment. ;3
I had a feeling, Toy Story 3 would win, It did have a more character story to it and was able to use the, Comedy and Drama well, Others were like, Slap Stick, COmedy, Yeah...
Still, What you, Pups think on the results? *Hugs* X3

Actually a lot of Americans had heard of the King's Speech before it won. The film had all the hype going in and basically no one is surprised it won.
I personally thought "Inception" would have been a great choice for Best Picture because it was a really smart and original film plus a huge hit with critics and audiences a like. It's the smartest summer blockbuster in a long while and a win could have signaled the Academy still knows what people want in a movie. Granted that's not to say King's Speech is a bad film, it's a very power movie with some great performances. I just wanted to see a mainstream film win Best Picture, the last time I can remember a big hit movie winning the Academy's top honor was "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King."

Here's something else I decided to come up with referring to the Academy Awards.
I know they have annual academy awards, but what if they had like a special kind that aired every 10 years and determine the movies of the decade? Basically, they will take the winners of each category from the past 10 years of the decade and determine like the "best of the best".
If it were to happen like this, the category for "Best Animated Feature" would probably not come out until the 50's, since in the 40's, animated features were really rare. So, judging by my assumptions up at the top of the list, these are the pictures that I think would have won for each decade:
1950's - Cinderella (1950) 1960's - One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) 1970's - Charlotte's Web (1973) 1980's - The Little Mermaid (1989) 1990's - Beauty and the Beast (1991) 2000's - Up (2009)
Those are just my assumptions. Any arguments?

Okay, now that we had the Oscars, a winner was named.
BEST ANIMATED FILM OF 2011
A Cat in Paris Chico and Rita Kung Fu Panda 2 Puss in Boots Rango
I hadn't seen Rango yet, but I had been predicting it would have won.
This also marks the first time that a Pixar film did not win and was not even nominated. Not just for Best Animated Feature, but any Oscars at all.
For the curious, it was Cars 2.
