Based on the trailer I just watched on YouTube...yeah, I wouldn't expect good stuff.
As Cinemasins, (or GCN the video game version), would put it, this film is "Puns. Quips. Jokes."

Here's what AniMat had to say about Smurfs: the Lost Village:
The Story: 4/10 The Animation: 8/10 The Characters: 4/10
Smurfs: the Lost Village (2017): 5/10 - Mediocre!
He did think it was better than the previous live-action/animation films with Neil Patrick Harris but hardly something great. A lot of the flaws he said I think are more the fault of the source material rather than the movie itself.
What may be the reason why the 80s Hanna-Barbara series worked so well was probably because the characters were not all that complex but we weren't supposed to be focusing on them at length and that presents a problem with building a movie around them.
He didn't hate it though hence the reason it didn't get his Seal of Garbage.
If you miss that Sony-slamming, he's saving that level of bile for their ultimate downfall--The Emoji Movie.

He's still anticipating the Emoji Movie to be a horrible abomination of mankind, huh? Well, who knows? Maybe that movie will surprise him.

It won't surprise me if Spark: A Space Tail doesn't Crack the Box Office Top 10.
It was kinda like a limited release.

I was thinking of going to see Ozzy, but it looks like that's not going to happen seeing that it's not playing at any of my local theaters.

I know that we previously touched on Surf's Up 2: WaveMania being a direct-to-DVD movie and not a big screen release, but I did watch AniMat's review of the film and he says it has a much more conventional narrative and it's more like a typical trashy modern Sony-animated feature. He says:
The Story: 3/10 The Animation: 4/10 The Characters: 4/10
Surf's Up 2: WaveMania (2017): 4/10 - Poor!
And yes, it got his Seal of Garbage. He says to stick with the first movie and leave the sequel to rot.
Want more evidence it was not all that great? They whored it out to Rainmaker Entertainment. Sony couldn't even do the movie themselves!

What I find a bit surprising is AniMatt hasn't been reviewing much new animated films getting released theatrically this year. He hasn't reviewed Rock Dog or Spark since they were limited Redbox exclusives, so it looks like the next one he'll be doing won't be until June when we get Captain Underpants.

I'm actually hopeful for Captain Underpants, (though granted I read the books as a puppy so to speak and enjoyed them fairly even though they are horribly childish and crude), so there's a chance I might see it...but General and I are gonna be going to a Drive-in while I'm over in Ohio early June and the theater is double feature...not sure how he feels about watching that film if literally all 3 options are separate...which would be a surprise. The three film options for when we go to the drive-in are Guardians of the Galaxy, the Pirates movie, and maybe...Captain Underpants, but that third one is probably just me. ^^; The only issue I've heard AniMat have thus far is you have adults playing kids. Aside from that nitpick perhaps, I think it may be good. Animation looks proper to the book illustrations and frankly what voices did you expect from the characters? As for story, it's clearly a mix of the first 3 or so books which enables the film-length presentation and characters are obviously gonna follow from the book if maybe end up a bit exaggerated perhaps like with Principal Krupp.

On Trey's Post, Isn' Rainmker the Studio who mde Beast Wrs, Al the Barbi Films and Escpe From Planet Earth?
With Lupus post; The Voice thing is kind of a nt pick, I shall admt, considering that many Films and Shows do that, and there are reasons as to why one may do that.
I remember hearing of the Books. From what I hear, they hypnotse their Principl in to thinking he's a Super Hero, they mde, and there are Evl Toilts, or some thing?
I am also checking on Animation Films, this year, and it seems there is also a Film about Paul Bunyan, A Hy Arnld Film, and I think at Christmas, there is a Film about the Dnkey of the Nativity. It also seems to have a lot of Voices in it, such as; Keegan Michael Key, Kristin Chenoweth, Zachary Levi, Oprah and Christophr Plummr.
You hear of those Films, Pups?

I assumed maybe you were because he also claims he is hopeful about Captain Underpants, and he also had the books and was a huge fan of them. I guess it's total coincidence that you are in the same boat as him.

You don't think there could POSSIBLY be other fans of a popular children's book series?

To be honest, I am not looking forward to Captain Underpants. I guess it's because I never read any of the books, but I just think this movie looks really, really stupid. I'm going to pass on this and Cars 3 and save my money for Despicable Me 3.

Rainmaker Entertainment was the animation studio that gave us that show, and the Ratchet and Clank movie. It almost seems like there is a trend between years for animated feature films. Case in point: 2011: Okay year. 2012: Great year! 2013: Bad year. 2014: Great year! 2015: Not much of a year. 2016: Great year! We are probably in another not-so-great year.
