We're back, so far 12 challengers have attempted the TOP DOG course but only one, Drake managed to complete it and advance to Stage 2. Will anyone clear today?
Narrator: Next up is challenger #13. Triskaidekaphobia would cause most pups to back off from this bad luck number. Some might joke you need a lucky horseshoe to overcome that number's stigma. Luckily our next contestant has just that...Horseshoe. Don't adjust your sets, yes he does look like Lucky and yes that is a blue collar he wears, but this pup is an evil twin of the farm's most popular canine. Can Horseshoe clear Stage 1?
(Horseshoe steps onto the course)
Horseshoe: I show all you mutts how to do this. I won't just clear this stage, I do it faster than anyone else.
(3...2...1...GO! Horseshoe goes on the offense as he charges onto the Rail Run and clears it with ease. He leaps the Skid Pan and runs up the Reversing Belt with no problems what so ever. He pauses briefly to make a coc ky pose for the crowd than contuines but messes up his Door Jam jump. He runs back and tries again, succeeding but losing valuable time. As he darts over the Balance Bridge he's only got 32 seconds left. He has no trouble hanging onto the Rolling Log and getting up the Stairs but he's only got 10 seconds left as he takes on the Rope Climb. Still he's good and almost makes it. Just as he reaches the top he runs out of time and loses)
Narrator: Horseshoe messed up on the Door Jam but still came close to finishing. Perhaps if he'd spent more time tackling the course's obstacles and less time playing to the crowd he would have made it.
Despite Drake's success, the next challengers couldn't find the right receipe to make thru...
U showed off some of his gadgetry, like a dog bone w/ a grapple hook built inside, before his run but rules prevented him from using any of it during his run. He slipped on the Rail Run and took any an early fall.
RJ the raccoon fared better, easily making it past the first few obstacles. Even after he messed up his Door Jam jump he used his natural climbing ability to climb back up and pull the latch without doubling back for another jump. His climbing ability would have served him well on the later Stages but he didn't get that far, he slipped and fell on the Rolling Log.
Five of the Hockey Hounds went next but none of them made it...
First was super goalie Hawk was slid off the Rail Run
Bruin was second but did no better as he tripped on the Reversing Belt and ended up sliding off the Skid Pan into the drink.
Leaf was next but the Toronto fan's hopes were dashed when the Ontario pup fell on the Balance Bridge.
Next was the goon, Ranger. The tough pup and his Bronx-attitude charged through the course with reckless abandon but he just wasn't fast enough and timed out just after starting the Rope Climb.
#20 was the ultra-competive Hab. Hab trained hard for this event and the only challenger hailing from Quebec was cruising thru the course even faster than Drake but he got hung up when the Rolling Log unexpectedly got stuck for about 5 seconds during his run. While the hockey star got it moving again the time lost was too much and he timed out just before reaching the top of the Rope Climb.
Let's now go back to the course where the next challenger is ready to go.
The 21st challenger is Patriot, one of the farm's biggest car buffs. The race fan pup spends much of his time in a local junkyard salvaging parts for various projects. One of the few pups who can weld, Patriot used this skill to build a mockup of some of the courses later obstacles including the Rope Climb and trained hard on them before the competition. Will his prepartion make for a high-octane charge into Stage 2?
(Patriot steps onto the course)
Patriot: #21 is a good number to have. David Pearson, A.J. Foyt and Cale Yarborough all won the Daytona 500 with it. I think I can take it thru Stage 1.
(3...2...1...GO! Patriot is off the line quicker than a drag racer and has no trouble with the Rail Run or the Skid Pan. He's up the Reversing Belt with no hassles and easily clears the Door Jam. Patriot pauses for a second than runs onto the Balance Bridge, but he's off too far to the side and tilts it! He starts to slide off. He makes a desperate attempt to stay on as it contuines to tilt, grabbing the edge, but it's not enough and he takes the plunge out of the event)
Narrator: There was a slight flaw in Patriot's plan of practicing the later obstacles on the course, he didn't do the early ones to insure he got that far. The red, white and blue pup will have to spend the rest of the event cheering from the sidelines.
The 22nd challenger is Jewel. Can the Valley Girl stay out of the Water and, like, avoid getting her fur wet
(Jewel steps out onto the course)
Jewel: I, like, hope I don't break a nail, and some junk. It would be, like awesome if I made it to Stage 2.
(3...2...1...GO! Jewel begins her run by cautiously stepping onto the Rail Run and slowly inching her way across. She's not even trying to go fast, just avoid the water. "SPEED UP!" chants the crowd. Jewel completes the Rail Run and slips on the Skid Pan, sending her right into the water she was trying so hard to avoid. She didn't even really try)
Narrator: Jewel took an unusual to say the least approach to the course and it did her in. Even if she hadn't have slipped on the Skid Pan, she'd already lost too much time to make up.
The 23rd challenger hails from an "Old New England Town," Angel. This street-smart yellow mutt may be best known for a romance with a certain young scamp but she also had her fair share of adventures with the Dals in the past. Can this crossover pup make it past this tricky course?
(Angel steps onto the course and quickly removes her pink ribbon collar. The former street dog is ready. 3...2...1...GO! She charges onto the course and with amazing agility is up the Reversing Belt with a time faster than anyone. She leaps and yanks down the latch to clear the door jam. She has no issues with the Balance Bridge and gets a good grip as she starts on the Rolling Log but wait, she loses her grip and falls into the water! She's done.)
Narrator: Angel may have settled down with a family but her street dog skills are still sharp. She was having a record-setting run before she slipped and fell off the log.
Next is the original "Baddest **** in the barnyard." Long before Diana, Emma or Stealth started causing trouble there was Mooch's sister...Petunia. Looking like a femine version of Mooch, Petunia was an even bigger pain than her brother. She's spent the last 5 years in a self-emposed exile trying to find herself but now she's back to show those "yappy little whiner Heartbreakers" whose really the toughest girl on the farm.
(Petunia steps onto the course)
Petunia: I'm back, just accept it.
(3...2...1...GO! Petunia barges onto the course, about as subtitle as a hurricane. She plows her way thru the early obstacles but slips on the Balance Bridge and fells into the water)
Narrator: Petunia showed an absolute brute force approach on the course and it seemed to be working before she fell on the Balance Bridge. This is certainly not the kind of return she wanted to make
(Back on the course, a train whistle is blowing, that could only mean one pup is next)
Super Chief (wearing an engineer's hat and overalls): Next Stop, Stage 2. ALL ABOARD!
(The narrator chimes in as he takes off the hat and overalls)
Narrator: Next up is the farm's resident rail fan, Super Chief. This little pup is loco for locomotives but is he on the right track for Stage 2 or set to derail?
(He's ready. 3...2...1...GO! Super Chief charges into Stage 1 like a freight train and easily makes up the Reversing Belt. The Door Jam and the Balance Bridge give him no trouble as he prepares for the Rolling Log. He starts it rolling down the tracks but he quickly slips and falls into the water)
Narrator: No ticket. Super Chief thought he could roll through to Stage 2 but his hopes ran out of steam.
Our 26th challenger knows how to handle himself in tough situations. He's Roadhouse the farm's bouncer at dances and other events. Despite an average size, he's one of the strongest pups on the farm. He's tackled his fair share of challenges before, but how will he fair on Stage 1?
(Roadhouse steps onto the course)
Roadhouse: It's my way or the highway and my way is straight thru to Stage 2...
(3...2...1...GO! Roadhouse begins his assault and has no trouble with the first three obstacles. With a leap he's quickly through the Door Jam and has no problems with the Balance Bridge or the Rolling Log. With 18 seconds on the clock he climbs the Stairs and swings across the gap on the Rope Climb. 14 seconds and he's climbing. He slips a little but with just 4 seconds left he reachs the top. With a push of the button, he's on the way to Stage 2.)
Roadhouse: That was actually easier than dealing with Mooch after he makes an unsuccessful pass at Two-Tone.
With 26 runs now in the book we've now passed the 1/4 mark of the event. Despite many excellent challengers so far only two, Drake and Roadhouse, have made it through to Stage 2. But most of the best and most skilled challengers are still to come. The survival odds of 1 in 13 are sure to improve as the best tackle the course. Stay tuned for more amazing challengers, more wild wipeouts, more thrilling victories and more of the TOP DOG CHALLENGE!
