43 Challengers have gone so far but only 8 have reached Stage 2. Let's go back to the course and see how the next batch far...
A pup with a red bandana can mean only one pup, Jake. He hasn't been around for quite a while but can he shake off the rust and clear Stage 1? (Jake walks onto the course) Jake: I'm prepared for glory (3...2...1...GO! Jake runs onto the Rail Run but he's off balance. He clears it but slips on the Skid Pan and he's right into the water) Jake was off his game a little but more importantly he was off balance and quickly fell
Next is a another pup we haven't seen in a while, returning from a three-year hiatus is Murphy. This pup with a curious spot pattern around his neck is back to conquer the course. Can he do it. (Murphy walks onto the course) Murphy: It's been awhile but I'm back in style. (3...2...1...GO! Murphy attacks Stage 1 and races up the Reversing Belt. He's thru the Door Jam and over the Balance Bridge but falls into the water on the Rolling Log) Despite his long absence, Murphy still was strong on the course before getting plunged into the water.
FAST FORWARD The jinx suffered by the Original 15 pups contuined as three of them tackled the course and all three fell. First was Fidget, nervous as ever. The jittery pup lost his balance and fell on the Rail Run. Pepper was next, she slipped on the Reversing Belt and like so many before slid backward into the water. Freckles was next and seemed to be having a good run before he slipped and fell on the Rolling Log. So far, none of the Original 15 have cleared Stage 1.
Our 49th challenger is our second Vupine one, Swift Fox. This red fox kit is regarded by some as the farm's fastest resident. Swift even once defeated Tripod in a head-to-head race. Can he speed through Stage 1? (Swift walks onto the course) Swift: I'm going to outfox Stage 1. (3...2...1...GO! Swift races into Stage 1 and quickly crests the Reversing Belt. With a good leap he's thru the Door Jam and has no issues with the Balance Bridge. He's running the quickest time so far, he still has 55 seconds on the clock. He has no problems with the Rolling Log and darts up the stairs. With 35 seconds left he swings across and climbs, struggling a little, but reaches the top and slams the button to move to Stage 2 with the best time yet, 18 seconds left on the clock) Not bad. Swift became the first non-dog challenger to clear Stage 1 with an impressive run. Will see if he can keep it later in Stage 2.
Up 50th is one of the biggest names on the farm. It's Spot, everyone's favorite chicken! This high-strung avian is the first of the "Main Pups" to try the course. Providing a vital role in saving the farm many times, Spot has shown to have the right stuff many times, even winning the Grutley Dog Show. Could the "Top Dog" actually be a chicken? (Spot walks out onto the course) Spot: Alright, I can do this, I can do this. I'm going to defeat Stage 1. (3...2...1...GO! Spot heads into Stage 1. She's a bit off balance but still makes it thru over the Rail Run and up the Reversing Belt. She leaps, akwardly, off the trampoline but makes it past the Door Jam. She has no problem with the Balance Bridge but she is slow and only has 40 seconds left on the clock. She starts her run on the Rolling Log, but slips off! She hits the water beak first in a spectular wipeout!) Wow, Spot is defeated by Stage 1. Still, the chicken's wipeout was one of the best so far.
We've basically now reached halfway with 50 challengers down and 51 to go. So far, just 9 challengers have completed Stage 1, will that number go up in the second half of Stage 1? Stay tuned.

We're back. So far we've seen 50 challengers but only 9 advanced to Stage 2. Will anyone else make it.
With our 51st challenger, we are now over the hump and headed for the second half. Taking the honor of going exactly in the middle is Doc. Doc's love of the BBC program Doctor Who is rivaled only by Lucky's of Thunderbolt but he's more than just a rabid fan. This Whovian once saved the Earth from certain destruction at the hands of evil alien canine Sirius. Will the good Doc be able to clear to Stage 1 or is he headed for more trouble than a ship load of Daleks. (A blue policeman's booth has appeared near the start line, it opens as two characters come out. Doc and K-4.5. Doc is the only one wearing the standard contestant's number.) Doc: K-4.5, where are we. What year is this. K-4.5: 2008, master. It appears this is an obstacle course that must be completed for great reward. Doc: So what's the best way to clear it. K-4.5: Insufficent data, master. Doc: Oh well, I'll wing it (3...2...1...GO! Doc rockets onto the course, scarf failing behind him as he conquers the first few obstacles. He's up the Reversing Belt and now faces the Door Jam. He springs off the trampoline but misses! He tries again and misses! Third time's the charm as he clears it, only to trip on the Balance Bridge and plunge into the water below. He comes up soaking wet, his scarf in needing of a cleaning from the muddy water) Doc: Well at least this ended better than the Doctor's trip to Logopolis, I remember it well. It all... (Camera pans up) Doc: Hey, where are you going, I'm not... (Replay cuts in mid-sentence) Perhaps Doc should have brought his Sonic Screwdriver, the Door Jam held him up severely. Time was starting to run short when the Whovian fell on the Balance Bridge and faced defeat.
Next we have three members of the infamous Heartbreakers. The only one to attempt the course so far was Stealth, the group's muscle, who cleared easily. How will the next three fair... First up is Thompson. The extrasensory one in the group, can this bratty pup clear Stage 1 and make the Heartbreakers 2-for-2. (3...2...1...GO! Thompson rushes into Stage 1, the slick Rail Run not slowing her at all as she charges up the Reversing Belt. But's she struggling to get the speed to get up it and slips, the Belt chucks her back into the water) So much for the Heartbreakers all making it to the next stage, Thompson was strong on the Rail Run but struggled on the Reversing Belt and fell quickly.
Next is Rob, the group's only male member. Rob is the group's tool of seduction toward female pups. But can his deceptive charm actually help him clear Stage 1 (3...2...1...GO! The male Heartbreaker is off and quickly up the Reversing Belt that did in Thompson. Up to the Door Jam, Rob jumps. BUT HE MISCALCULATES! Rob slams the door hard a good foot above the handle and falls down, clipping the handle and opening the door before a hard hit to the floor. Is this it for Rob? No, he's back up a little shaken up but he contuines, actually clearing the Balance Bridge! Could he still clear, he's got 51 seconds left on the clock as he starts the Rolling Log, but falls on its second spin.) That's looked like it hurt. Rob miscalculated the Door Jam's jump and did a hard face plant into the door. Despite the hit, he was able to contuine his run and seemed to be recovering from it when he lost his grip and fell on the Rolling Log.
The last of this batch of Heartbreakers is Malinda. An evil counterpart to her twin sister Kendra, Malinda is perhaps the most well-balanced of the group. Will it help her clear Stage 1? (3...2...1...GO! She's off and quickly past the Rail Run, Skid Pan and Reversing Belt. She attempts the Door Jam, but misses her first jump. She goes around for a second and makes it past. Now she pauses for a moment to think, then aces the Balance Bridge. Time is a little tight, 38 seconds, as she decends on the Rolling Log but reaches the bottom with 31 to go. She races up the stairs and grabs the rope. 21 seconds, this will be close! She swings, but she looses her grip as she swings and slips down the rope a little. Her claws graze the water at the bottom and she's eliminated by default. She could have made it. Heartbreak for the Heartbreaker) Tough luck! Malinda fell behind when she didn't clear the Door Jam but seemed to be recovering from it. She still had enough time to clear when she swung across on the Rope Climb but a slight slip caused her to ever so slightly nick the water. Rules dicate that anyone who falls in the water (no matter how much) is eliminated, knocking Malinda out.
FAST FORWARD The course remained unforgiving as the Little Angels tackled the course, eliminating all of them who tried. Vanilla made it the furthest, reaching the Rolling Log before falling in the water Peter joined the growing list of pups eliminated by the deceptively simple looking Balance Bridge Gilkes made it to the Door Jam but struggled to grab the handle and timed out Scott and Abbey were both eliminated quickly by the Rail Run.
Next up is Shore, the resident lawyer. He's unbeatable in the court room, but what about on the obstacle course. Can he find a legal loophole that leads to Stage 2? (Shore walks out onto the course) Shore: If I don't clear Stage 1, I'm starting a class-action suit. (3...2...1...GO! Shore races onto the Rail Run and slips off immediately.) I hope he wasn't serious about the lawsuit. Shore made it only about a foot before falling in the water. It may be soaking wet but at least his tie is still straight.
Our last contestant for now is Serling. While his speciality is telling stories that often end with a twist, Serling has shown some athletic ability in the past. Can this grey-eared pup clear Stage 1 or are his hopes of victory headed for the Twilight Zone. (Sterling enters the course) Serling: There is a place beyond that which is known to man. It is a place as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the place of great peril. Next stop, Stage 1! (3...2...1...GO! He's off and doing surprisingly well as he's over the Reversing Belt and passed the Door Jam. With a good jump he's thru the Door Jam. After clearing the Balance Bridge it's onto the Rolling Log with 48 seconds left. He holds on and reaches the bottom. He's up the stairs and swings across to start the Rope Climb with 20 seconds left. The climb takes a bit but Serling reaches the top and pushes the button. He clears Stage 1 with 5.4 seconds left.) Serling's run was anything but a horror story as he cleared Stage 1. His previous athletic experience served him well as he advanced to the second stage.
With 61 challengers down, only 10 have reached the end of Stage 1 and advanced to Stage 2. Stay tuned as the last 40 make their runs. How many will clear Stage 1?

We're back, the course contuined its dominance over the next few challengers
FAST FORWARD Golden Labrador Retriever Alex was next and he started well before joining the growing ranks of challengers eliminated by the Balance Bridge. Coffee addict Perky was next. The brown spotted Dal took a double shot of strong expresso before his run and charged thru the course at high speed because of it. Unfortunetily the log drop bucked him and he wound up wet Triangle-spotted Delta was next but she also found the water quickly after falling on the Balance Bridge. Orkan was next and did better than most of the avians but still wasn't enough to clear. The black bird made it to the Stairway to Glory, but had trouble climbing it and timed out Sweetheart Squad member Daisy was next. Rolly's sweet lover faced an early defeat however when she fell on the Balance Bridge. Finally Shortsight took on the course but only made it halfway up the Reversing Belt before a slip set him into the water.
Now let's go back to the course to see how the next couple fair...
Our 68th challenger is Kit. The gypsy pup is becoming a fan favorite and has a passion for music and dancing. Will it help him clear Stage 1? (Kit walks onto the course) Kit: I'll do my best. (3...2...1...GO! He's off, he nearly slips on the Rail Run but makes it up the Reversing Belt and passes the Door Jam. It's onto the Balance Bridge BUT WAIT he slips. Kit grabs the edge and holds on. He's hanging by a thread as he tries to rock the bridge back into a position but it doesn't work and he falls. Still, a valant effort) Kit got into trouble on the Balance Bridge but didn't give up. His efforts to correct the problem were brave but alas, Kit will still have to watch the rest of this event from the sidelines.
Next up is another of the Heartbreakers, Jenny. This psycho is the group's speedster. Can she race thru Stage 1 and avenge the defeat of three of her teammate. (Jenny walks onto the course. 3...2...1...GO! She's off and up the Reversing Belt with Lighting Speed. She's passed the Door Jam and over the Balance Bridge. 55 seconds on the clock, she could do it...NO! She falls off the Rolling Log. Another nice fur-do ruined by the muddy water hazards. Tough luck) Jenny had all the speed one could ask for but it was for naught as she slipped off the Rolling Log and plumeted into the water below. The Heartbreakers are only 1 for 5 today.
Our 70th challenger is Rebecca. This carriage hound has been trained for running and endurance all her life. Despite what the frilly pink collar may imply, she's likely one of the strongest challengers. She's also one of the few to ever vanquish a DeVil, defeating Dimsdale and freeing her town from his curse. But how will she fare on Stage 1? (Rebecca walks onto the course) Rebecca: I'm a carriage hound, I know the way...to Stage 2. (3...2...1...GO! She off, quickly reaching the Balance Bridge and clearing it with ease. 52 seconds as she attempts the Rolling Log and completes it. She's up the stairs with 38 seconds left as she swings across on the Rope Climb. But she's not trained to climb. She struggles a bit, but reaches the top. With a jam of the button, she's on to Stage 2 with 16.5 seconds left on the clock) Rebecca is trained for Speed and Endurance, the exact skills Stage 1 tests to limit. She struggled on the Rope Climb but still reached the end of the stage with one of the best times of the day.
With the end of Rebecca's run, the sun is starting to decent and dusk is starting to settle on the course. We've seen 70 Challengers so far and, oh thank heaven, 11 have their way to Stage 2. As the course takes on a decepitively inveiting orange glow in the setting sun, will any of the last 31 challengers ace Stage 1. Stay tuned for more of the Top Dog Challenge...

If one than one wins than just that, there is more than one winner. They don't get another week of fancy kibble.
We're back, so far 70 challengers have attempted Stage 1 and 11 have finished. The sun is getting lower in the sky and the has gaining an almost orange glow in the dusk. We're fresh off a win by Rebecca, so let's go back to the course to see if the luck keeps up.
Next up is Nuke. This pup likes to play rough but will he enjoy just how rough Stage 1 is? (Nuke walks out, Air raid sirens blare for a few seconds as he does but stop as he talks) Nuke: Look out Stage 2, I'm coming thru! (3...2...1...GO! Nuke launches into Stage 1 and quickly reaches the Door Jam. SPRING! He's passed it in one try. Over the Balance Bridge and no problems yet. Down the Rolling Log, he hangs on. He's still got 34 seconds as he starts the Rope Climb. To the top, Nuke struggles but presses the big red button with 10.2 seconds left to advance) Normally when a red button is pressed involving a Nuke it is a very bad thing but not today. Nuke moves on to Stage 2.
Next up is Blaze, this German Shepherd pup hails from Stifle. While most of his "adventures" in life turned out to be nothing but fiction this pup is still a contender. Blaze is one of the best climbers in the competition, he's frequently climbed several of this area's highest cliffs to fuel his other passion, cliffdiving. Can he climb to top and stay dry? (Blaze walks out) Blaze: See ya on Stage 2. (3...2...1...GO! Blaze races onto the course and quickly reaches the Balance Bridge. He's across and onto the Rolling Log. He hangs on and reaches the bottom with 32 seconds left. He runs up the stairs but trips and falls back about 3 steps. He recovers and climbs again, reaching the Rope Climb with 12 seconds left. He swings. 10 seconds, can he make it! He's climbs and reaches the top. He jams down the bottom with 2.1 seconds left.) Blaze lost valuable time on the stairs but made up for it with his climbing ability. He's thru to Stage 2.
We've tied the record for the day at three winners in a row, will we see the record fall or will the course bit back.
To go for this record we'll need one of the best the farm has, Patch. When his family was in danger in London, Patch stepped up and saved the day. This one-of-a-kind hero has bulked up noticably since then and is now one of the farm's strongest pups. Will he reach Stage 2? (Patch walks out) Patch: (bark from 101D2) (3...2...1...GO! Patch is off and quickly past the first few to reach the Door Jam. He leaps and yanks with enough force to pull the latch clean off the door! Still he got it open and runs over the Balance Bridge. Onto the Rolling Log, Patch holds on tight as the log rolls down. He reaches the bottom with 35 seconds left. He runs up the stairs and swings across. He's goin' make it. Patch presses the bottom with a full 21 seconds left on the clock. It's the best time so far today) Amazing, four in a row! Patch is one of the farm's best and it showed. Although he broke the Door Jam latch, Patch was flawless and beat Stage 1 with the best time yet. We'll take 5 minuntes to repair the latch and then see how long this winning streak can go...
Now that the course is repaired we move on to our next challenger, Selene. This albino German Shepherd was almost killed in a fall from a high building and rebuilt bionically enhanced. Can her increased abilities help her clear Stage 1? (3...2...1...GO! Selene is off. The canine Bionic Woman races up the Reversing Belt and easily clears the repaired Door Jam. She races over the Balance Bridge but tips it and slids off! Oh no, Selene is defeated!) And there goes the winning streak. Selene had a great start. She was running like a well oiled machine until she joined the ranks of those eliminated by the Balance Bridge.
FAST FORWARD
After the string of victories the course bit back with an even longer string of defeats...
Mooch was the 75th challenger. With his background as one of the farm's toughest dogs, and top wrestlers, but he wasn't enough. Despite a stated intent to go further than his sister Petunia who went earilier. Sadly it was not to be, Mooch slipped on the Rail Run and went out early. Next was Indiana, who stormed in with a human swordsman in pursuit. He quickly shot the swordsman, but he fell off the Rolling Log and won't be back for stage 2. 77th was Eagle, formerly named Desert Eagle. The fan favorite was engineered for war but choose to join the pups side before he left for some adventures of his own. He returned after a long absence but had trouble with the Reversing Belt and timed out on the Rope Climb. Next was Tiger, the striped dal was stronger than expected but timed out on the Rope Climb. Harvest was next but fell on the Balance Bridge. Walker was the 80th challenger and was ready to make a deal on the start line. After leaving behind his trenchcoat, he attacked the course, but fell on the Rail Run. 81st was Leno, Tripod's big chinned associate got held up by the Door Jam then fell on the Rolling Log
With 81 Challengers down, only 14 have finished. There's still 20 to go, how many more will clear?
It's not too late to have your characters included, just give permission in a response to this post or contact me in AIM, Slayer, Nuke and GameCube have it if you'd like it. I'll extend beyond 101 characters if necessary

Remember, there is still time to have your characters featured in this fic. You can write their runs on Stage 1 yourself or give me permission to write them in a reply to this post.
Welcome back, so far of the scheduled 101 challengers, 81 have tried the course and all but 14 have been served the bitter taste of defeat. The last 20 include some of the challengers with the best chance to finish, who will join the elite on Stage 2...
Fast Forward This late in the day and the course is still tough... Spin is a character from the old XPF. With that site shutting down, he was hoping to make a good impression in his first appearence here. It was not to be, Spin was defeated on the Balance Bridge. Lita had a good start but got hung up on the Door Jam, she got by but lost too much time and timed out on the Stairway to Glory. Duke is one of the farm's strongest pups. Tripod's teammate got a good start but fell on the Rolling Log. Next was Connor, the former Zoo animal. The red fox blazed thru the first Stage and cleared with 6.2 seconds left. Roxy's boyfriend will be back for Stage 2. Finally, Pooh attempt the course. The brick-spotted pup was better than expected but wasn't enough, he timed out on the Rope Climb, just feet from the finish line.
Next is Clayton, one of the farm's most enthusiastic pups. Will this friendly dog find his way to Stage 2? (Clayton walks onto the course) Clayton: I'll go all the way. I know I can. (3...2...1...GO! Clayton's off and passed the first few obstacles, good start. He's passed the Door Jam and now faces the tricky Balance Bridge. He runs over it but it tilts! He falls right in the water. Tough luck) Clayton had a good start but it wasn't enough and he joined the growing list of those taken out by the Balance Bridge.
Next is Kendra. This pup loves the mythical world but is also one of the best in the real one. She's one of the farm's toughest females. Her evil twin Malinda went earilier and almost cleared, but clipped the water on the Rope Climb. Now it's Kendra's turn to try. Will her run be pure magic or are her hopes of victory just an illusion. (Kendra steps onto the course) Kendra: I'm coming thru to Stage 2. Dragon up! (3...2...1...GO! She's off and quickly up the Reversing Belt and passed the Door Jam. She pauses at Balance Bridge that knocked out her friends Clayton and Doc but quickly clears it. She's onto the Rolling Log and while her ride is rough, she's by. She's up the stairs and onto the Rope Climb. She swings across, no slips here, and climbs up. She pushes the button with 12.3 seconds left) Kendra was even stronger than her sister and will return for Stage 2!
Next up is a challenger who should have went earilier, Wing. This pup is best at home on a frozen Hiccup Hole in the winter, hitting a puck around with the other Hockey Hounds. They went earlier and all five of them lost but Wing arrived late after attending a Stanley Cup Finals game in Pittsburgh to watch his favorite team, the Detroit Red Wings, win the NHL title. Will this frozen sports fanatic clear Stage 1 or are his hopes of victory about to get iced. (Wing walks onto the course, accompanied by an armed guard and an offical wheeling out a black case. The offical opens the case and displays its content, the STANLEY CUP!) Wing: Hockey players always perform a little better with Stanley around! (3...2...1...GO! Wing is off and over the Rail Run and Skid Pan quickly. He's passed the Door Jam and over Balance Bridge without problem, he's used to ice and has a good sense of balance. Wing rides the Rolling Log down and is quickly up the stairs. Plenty of time left as he swings across and climbs the rope climb to finish with 7.0 seconds left) The Hockey Hound restored some pride to his group as he finished Stage 1. The Stanley Cup was a real good luck charm but it has already been packed up and won't be here for the rest of the event. Still, this Ice Warrior is on to Stage 2...
Our 90th challenger is one of the Main Pups, Cadpig. Cadpig is the runt of the Original 15 litter but don't underestimate her. She's much stronger than she looks with upperbody strength to spare. Despite this however, she had a lot of trouble on Pug's old obstacle course. Will she do better on this one of is her Karma headed for an early splashdown. (Cadpig walks onto the course) Cadpig: I may be little but I have might, I'm goin' reach the top of that big tower tonight! (3...2...1...GO! Cadpig is off and up the Reversing Belt quick. She takes a run at the Door Jam, BUT MISSES THE HANDLE. She tries again and misses again! She's lost valuable time BUT she's gets it! 3rd time was the charm. She's over the Balance Bridge and down the Rolling Log. 12 seconds! She's up the stairs with only 8 seconds left. She swings across and she's climbing faster than any other challenger, she's halfway up but she's only got five seconds, she reaches the top with only a second left and lunges for the button...AND MISSES! NOOOOOO! She's beaten! SHE WAS SO CLOSE!) Cadpig had big trouble on the Door Jam but didn't give up. She threw everything she had and almost made up the time but the glass slipper shattered when her final desperate lunge for the button missed and she timed out.
We've now seen 90 Challengers take on Stage 1 and only 17 finished. But with big name challengers like Lucky, Rolly, Two-Tone, Slayer and Tripod still to come, how many more will make it before Stage 1 concludes.

Whoa forgot about this, I'll add on now
Our 91st challenger happens to be one of the small pups on the farm, she is Star!
*Star walks onto the course a bit nervous*
Star: I hope to do my best
*3..2..1..GO! Star rushes off onto the reversing belt but struggles! She manages toi clear it but next comes the door jam, despite her small size she manages to clear it but unfourtinately disaster strikes as she slips off the balance bridge and tumbles headfirst into the muddy water below!*
Despite a hold up on the Reversing Belt Star gave it a good showing but she couldn't retain her balance on the balance bridge and fell off.
Our 92th challenger happens to also be the former tomboy of Mooch's gang before leaving and joining Lucky, meet Two-Tone!
*Two-Tone enters the course*
Two-Tone: I'm doing this for you Lucky!
*3...2...1..GO! Two-Tone shoots down the reversing belt with speed, she then makes quick work of the Door Jam then crosses over the Balance Bridge, she grasps a hold of the Rolling Log and hangs on for dear life as it rolls down, she quickly climbs the stairs without much trouble despite being a bit dizzy from the log roll, she grabs the rope and swings across and lands on the platform then presses the button to clear the course with 10 seconds remaining on the clock!*
Despite a little dizzyness Two-Tone manages to find her way to the second stage.
Our 93th challenger happens to be the farm's favorite puppy (cept for Tic-Tac's) and he considers himself the luckiest pup on the farm here is Lucky!
*Lucky walks onto the course*
Lucky: Time to show everybody what Luckybolt can do!
*3....2....1..GO! Lucky Rushes off to a great start at the rail run then clears the skid pan, he then goes to the door jam but has some difficulty grabbing the handle but he does but using up some valuble time, Lucky rushes past the balance bridge, Lucky clings onto the rolling log but as he reaches the end the log pops off the track and plunges into the mud below, luckily Lucky landed safely and continued on to the rope swing with time counting down, Lucky swings across and barely presses the button with 5.5 seconds left!*
Despite losing some time on the Door Jam and a near disaster on the Rolling Log, Lucky recovered and completed stage one making him the first main pup to clear stage 1
(how was that Race?)
