I have a feeling I'm going to really like Wreck-It Ralph, but I have my doubts it will be nominated for Best Animated Feature largely because of all the existing video game characters that will appear in the film and the fact the academy doesn't really see video gaming as an art form.

Well, I'm sure you will, Trey. I know you quite well. You seem to have a love for cartoon series' based on video games and live action movies based on retired cartoons, so I'm sure this one will be right up your alley.

Given that Frankenweenie tanked, opening against Taken 2 probably amplified that appearence, one hopes it makes money.
Personally I don't see what all the hype over the Oscar for an animated film. The Academy is a bunch of stuck-up LA snobs who have a seemingly 'art house' taste in movies that really translates to rewarding pretentiousness and certain political agendas (Because we all know the exists only to be anti-corporate 'Logorama' was such a better animated short than the last 'Wallace and Gromit' adventure. Does anyone but me remember 'Logorama' now?). It's rather have an animated film that's fun and well-made than one that just won the Oscar.

I've just got back from seeing "Frankenweenie" with my Mother, Sister and her Fiancee.
What I think of it? It was VERY Good! ;3 It takes almost every single horror trope in the book and use them all effectively. This film's got it all if you're a Horror Movie Fan, The Zombies, The Jump Scare, A Very Good Vicent Price like character and they even have stock footage taken from the Hammer Dracula films.
During the third act of the film, my Mother was hunched up beside me and I confess we did have to cover our eyes at some points.
So, Yeah! Frankenweenie was a VERY good film, definately one of Tim Burton's finest, even to rival with "Nightmare Before Christmas".
Worth The Watch and I give it my Thumbs up! If it won "Best Animated Feature of 2012", I would have no complaints.
It's also nice to see an Animated Film that ISN'T CGI for a change, eh?

Hahaha agreed, I've went out a few days ago with my girlfriend to see Frankenweenie, and in my opinion it is the best animated movie of the year if not the best in general. At some moments, my gf would cuddle towards me and bury her head in my chest xD

Mmmmm, hearing about the positive feedback about this movie, I guess I'll have to watch it. Well, not directly at the cinemas but... I shouldn't mention my source. I'm assuming you guys already know what I'm talking about. Hehe

I've been wanting to see Frankenweenie, but judging by how my schedule looks for the rest if the month, I'm fearing I won't be able to get a chance.

Hey guys I'm back.
My computer went off due to a virus but I'm back now.
Anyway, I got to see Brave. I saw it at a theater called "Budget Cinema". It's a theater where as the name implies, you can see movies that have been out for a while (like at this time of year, movies that came out early in summer 2012 like The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, Ted, Ice Age: Continental Drift and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days) for only about $2.
And? Well... I am going to agree with Belchic on it. I think Pixar may have hit their creative height with Wall-E, Up and Toy Story 3 so now... we probably can't count on Pixar to slam it out of the park each and every time anymore (which makes Woody's claim "We all knew this day was coming" all the more bittersweet).
For one thing, they did an amazing job on the animation; no complaints there. But if they spent a little less time on perfecting the animation on the characters' hair and more time on the story and characters maybe it would have been better. Like I first said, the first half of the movie seems like they want Merida to be a strong, independent female character, but in the second half it feels more like a moralizing story about why it's important to obey your parents. Not as black-and-white as I thought, but it felt almost like they had two directors working on the same movie. Did you notice how Merida seems to be a skilled archer at first, but near the end her archery has little effect?
As far as Merida goes, I think Pixar was trying to make her seem like a three-dimensional character. In one instance she seems like she is supposed to be a princess that wants to defy tradition and do her own thing... but at the same time seem like a little brat that needs to grow up. Not bad but I think Pixar could have handled it a bit better.
I remember Belchic said it felt like it was like if you took How to Train Your Dragon, Tangled, Brother Bear and Quest for Camelot and had them all be one movie? It also reminded me of Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch Has A Glitch in regards to the fact Queen Elinor was losing her humanity to the beast. Also, I can't be the only one who thought the witch probably would have been a better villain, she could have been like Ursula on The Little Mermaid.
Merida's triplet brothers also felt like kind of an afterthought; I mean they don't appear all that much and I really can't tell them apart. I know they don't actually speak but maybe that is just supposed to be their charm, ineffective as they may be. It felt like King Fergus, best character as he is, was all the comedy relief they needed.
Another department it seemed to fall short: humor. There is some of the humor that Pixar seems to have made themselves famous for, such as when the triplets try to steal cakes from the lady-in-waiting and when King Fergus 'clears the table', but otherwise they seem to stress a lot of 'I'm naked' jokes that just doesn't seem like Pixar at all.
I know I'm making it sound worse than it is. Brave still has good qualities, like the Scottish atmosphere never stops. It still has a poignant undertone, and the animation is amazing. Chances are I'll like it better than Monsters University. But like it was said: I know this is a Pixar film but... lower your expectations a bit.
And at least, it was an improvement over Cars 2.
Brave (2012) TreyVore rates it: B-

Yeah. I think you're right when you say that Pixar films are starting to decline. =s
Usually, Pixar Films get at least 90% scores, however they're starting to get scores that are below 75%. =s I am especially fearful of what Monsters University would do. Since I find the first Monsters film, VERY good, however if they're doing a College Animal House like feel to it, I only prayer that Pixar knows what it's doing.
Why can't they make "The Incredibles 2"? It'll make sense, due to all the Super Hero Movies that are coming out recently and maybe it can introduce more Heroes. Maybe the Incredibles could have like an "Avengers" type sequel?

Like I said. I'm not interested in seeing Monsters U because it doesn't look like its going to be good. It looks to me like its just going to be Animal House rein acted by the Monsters Inc cast. Great, 2 movies I hate that everyone else loves rolled into one! Needless to say, I'll pass on it.

AniMat just reviewed Frankenweenie. He had to say:
The Story: 6/10 The Animation: 8/10 The Characters: 7/10
Decent story, great animation, good characters.
Frankenweenie (2012): 7/10 - Good!
The good news is, he liked it.
The bad news is against everything else this year, with a score like that, for his reviews it's in trouble. If he was to recap the 2012 animated films and do a Top 5 Best and Worst, it probably will make his Worst list. If it wants a chance to avoid that, then Wreck-It Ralph and Rise of the Guardians both need to score 7s or lower.
I kinda doubt that will happen though.

I just saw it yesterday. I thought it was cute. A lot of big name actors in it: Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short, Martin Landau, Tom Kenney, but surprisingly, no Johnny Depp. I highly recommend Frankenweenie to Tim Burton fans, dog lovers, and fans of the Frankenstein movies. It pleases all audiences.

Yeah! That was shocking about Frankenweenie! There wasn't a Johnny Depp of Carter in the film! D= Maybe Burton has realised people are getting a bit fed up with seeing no one but those two in his films.
Agreed though, Great film and any fan to those old Horror films will love it, eh? ;3

I just checked Rotten Tomatoes now that Wreck-It Ralph is out, and...
It looks good. It has a "Certified Fresh" rating of 84%.

We saw Frankenweenie in 3D last Tuesday. School was cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy (Luckily, there was hardly any damage in my area), so we decided to go to the movies. It was a really great movie And I really want to see Wreck-It Ralph. I would see it tomorrow, but I'll be busy. Maybe Sunday.
